Ice Cream Sundae Incentive!
In fifth grade we spend a lot of time studying fractions and decimals. Because of this, I feel that it is super important that students know their multiplication/division facts extremely well. So to encourage this, I have come up this an incentive of an Ice Cream Sundae Party that will happen the last week before Winter Break. The way it works is simple: the more facts they know, the more elaborate their sundae will be. We will be doing a quick daily quiz assessing a combination of multiplication and division problems; once they master a number, they receive more on their sundae. Please feel free to practice at home, you can use flash cards, Dreambox, or other online games to help them with their facts.
Here is what they will get as they master each number:
1s: Dish
2s: Spoon
3s: Scoop of Ice Cream
4s: Oreo Cookie crumbs
5s: Banana
6s: Scoop of Ice Cream
7s: Whipped Cream
8s: Chocolate Sauce
9s: Scoop of Ice Cream
10s: Sprinkles
11s: Carmel Sauce
12s: Cherry
My goal is that everyone will get a full sundae with a cherry on top. I know that every student is capable of doing this and the greatest benefit is that the remainder of the year will be so much easier.
I am not usually an advocate of prizes, especially sweet ones, but I want this to be a fun experience for the students as they master the basic multiplication facts. Please let me know of your concerns and of any dietary restrictions (I will make sure everyone is able to participate).

Math 2018/2019
Throughout the year I will be using this page to list tools such as anchor charts, online resources, or videos so that students (and parents) have a place to go for help.
Curriculum
We will be using two curriculums to help the fifth graders transition from the lower grades to middle school grades. Kindergarten through fourth grade will continue using Georgia Math and sixth, seventh and eight grades use Connected Math; so therefore we will be using a combination of both.
~Let's Be Rational - Understanding Fraction Operations
~Covering and Surrounding - Two-Dimensional Measurement
Homework
Most homework will be assigned as a Juno, these are accessed through Jupiter.
Jupiter Grades
Assignments and grades will be regularly posted on Jupiter Grades. I will notify you when new information has been posted here or on Jupiter Grades. Also I will be posting charts that we have made in class on here and will be including a link from Jupiter Grades to the charts.
