Home Journal Info
Students will write a first draft in class about the topic we are learning for the week. They will not write it in letter form, it will be written as an essay (multiple paragraphs) format. They should be done or close to done before they leave school on Thursdays, if not they need to finish at home.
Once at home, students should edit their paper for capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. Next, they should sit with a parent, as the parent edits their paper by highlighting any mistakes made in capitalization, punctuation, and spelling. Please do not highlight more than 6 spelling errors and only for conventions, NOT content.
After the corrections are made, please read the corrected Home Journal and write a response to your child about what you learned or found interesting. This is a chance to give positive feedback rather than try to make corrections. Please sign your response and give it back to your child who will turn it in by Monday.
Students must submit their writing electronically via JupiterEd. They log-in, create a new JunoDoc, then send it to you to review. You can then click on any word, phrase, or sentence to indicate the error. Also, be sure to comment on what you wrote with some positive feedback. When you are done, they need to log back in and fix any mistakes that were found. Finally, your student can submit the JunoDoc to me by "Turning it In".
I will be grading Home Journals and adding comments on JupiterEd. Students will not get credit unless their journals have a comment from a parent.
If you have questions or comments about this process, please don't hesitate to ask.
