I have updated Jupiter with assignments. I wanted to let you all know how I plan to grade student work. Some assignments will have scores on it such as points earned out of total available (18/20), others will be scored on a rubric, and some will be on a check system. The checks that I will be using are as follows:
✓+ complete, on time ✓ complete, late ✓- incomplete, edit/redo / missing I am more than happy to re-grade any assignment that students want to redo/add to/complete. I think that it is a great learning opportunity for students to look over their work again. Once assignments are turned back in I will update their grade in Jupiter. If you have any questions or concerns about the grades/scores students have received or about the grading system I am using please contact me. The second week of school was a success. We were able to complete our pre-tests in several areas, something I know the students do not enjoy, neither do I. We also started our science unit with a lot of enthusiasm, the class is learning about cells. On Wednesday, we went out on a mini-field study to look at organisms and predict what they look like under a microscope, which they will get to do in a few weeks.
There was a big announcement I made in class on Thursday, if your student hasn't said anything, ask them what it was. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. I enjoyed seeing many families on Friday during the Harvest Festival, it was a great time with lots of fun activities. Today was such a great experience! The students objective was to make observations about the changes in METRO and to teach me about how they have previously been successful in the field. Students shared stories about activities and where their favorite spots are. I was very impressed with the students attention to detail and care for nature. I truly learned so much from them all!
Please consider volunteering with us for upcoming field study days. Today we had no parents from our class that were able to make it. I hope to have at least 2-3 additional adults with us so that we can have in-depth meaningful study time with smaller groups. Let me know what Friday's work for you, I appreciate your time. Today was a great day! Our class is a wonderful group of energetic students. I am even more excited about this year now that I have put faces to the names on my list. We did several activities today for students to get to know each other and work together, we even made a huge mess in the classroom. I am already looking forward to tomorrow.
There have been so many changes to Springwater over the summer, including me joining the staff. I am thrilled to be a part of the Springwater community and excited to meet all of you. It was nice to see some of the families at the school Picnic and the Ice Cream Social.
The first week of school will be full of activities for me to get to know you and for the students to build a strong team to work with all year. It will be a combination of fun projects, games, and getting the brain back into school mode. Remember that Friday is our first FFS. Please keep an eye on what the weather is so that your student dresses appropriately both for warmth and foot attire. Please never hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns. |
